AhlulBayt News Agency: Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said the force maintains continuous, around-the-clock surveillance over the Strait of Hormuz across surface, aerial, and subsurface domains.
According to Mehr, speaking during military drills titled “Defensive Strength and Offensive Operations from the Persian Gulf Islands,” Tangsiri stated that the exercises are underway in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz as part of the IRGC Navy’s annual training program.
He described Iran’s islands in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz as “impregnable fortresses,” emphasizing that responsibility for defending the islands and securing the strategic waterway rests with the IRGC Navy.
According to Tangsiri, the drills focus on ensuring rapid and decisive responses to maritime security threats. He said IRGC rapid reaction units routinely conduct training to inspect, and if necessary, seize vessels suspected of violations, in coordination with other security agencies tasked with protecting maritime transit.
The commander stressed that monitoring operations cover surface vessels, aerial activity, and subsurface movements, with the stated aim of guaranteeing safe passage for non-hostile countries whose economies rely on the waterway.
Tangsiri also highlighted the Strait’s global significance, noting that more than 80 oil tankers and commercial container ships pass through the channel each day, underscoring its vital role in regional and international trade.
